Description

Art Deco Inspired drawing from the 1950's - works on paper, from the extensive library of Collected Works of J Alexander®. A drifter who settled in California, artist Alexander lived a monastic life. He slept in a modest shed, drew his remarkable mandalas with a standard compass and colored pencils. He studied his page worn handwritten scriptures and left a notebook of artistically adorned sheet music.

From memories of his world travels, he created hand drawn architectural and geometric works on paper by the light of a kerosene lamp...many are crafter to "tile" together in infinite repeat patterns. The works were found tucked under his bed after he passed on in 1958.
